Hypnosis is a natural and safe state of mind. It heightens suggestibility so you can commit to any goal you have chosen for yourself. You are awake and alert throughout the session. We all experience the hypnotic state routinely when we daydream, watch a movie, and when driving. Hypnosis is quite similar to meditation, except that meditation does not include the component of setting a specific goal and adding suggestions to change behavior.
What Can Hypnosis Do For Me?
Hypnosis has been clinically demonstrated to relieve people of phobias, enhance athletic performance, to stop smoking, to reduce overeating, curb test/performance anxiety, treat impotence, restore memory, among other things. Besides being safe and effective, it can produce quicker results than some traditional methods. In some cases, a person gets results they desire after only one session, making it less expensive than ongoing therapy.
How Will I Feel When Hypnotized?
The first thing you will notice is that hypnosis will not feel much different than any other time when you were completely relaxed and not thinking about the problems of the day. People often say the experience of hypnosis left them feeling immediately peaceful and relaxed, and the calming effect lasted for days or weeks after the session.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is also referred to as Hypnotherapy. Hypnosis can be used in conjunction with or instead of psychotherapy.
What is a Hypnosis Session Like?
The first 20-30 minutes are an interview to determine your specific goals. Then hypnosis will occur for approximately 25-30 minutes more. You may be on a sofa or recliner, but you will not be lying flat. You will remain awake. There are no special gadgets or gizmos to induce hypnosis. You will be asked to relax, close your eyes and concentrate on the hypnotist's voice. Background music is played to help block out any external noise. You will experience an overall sense of relaxation and security knowing you are in control and making the changes you desire.
